Easter Egg Trail 2018
Considering all of the rain that we have had recently, we were extremely lucky with the weather last Saturday for our Easter Egg trail. Whilst the ground underfoot was very wet (and very muddy!), all of those taking part were not deterred, even when we had a little drizzle, and they worked their way around our site answering all the quiz questions on the route. Over 170 quizzers took part and were rewarded with an easter prize at the end in the barn, where they could also partake in a hot drink and the traditional hot cross bun! We had games in the barn to play too and it proved to be a hugely enjoyable day for all, with a constant fun buzz throughout the day.
The route took in most of the main site which meant that this was the first time that our four new mares had experienced visitors on such a scale. We were so proud of them – they were wonderfully fascinated with all the new faces, young and old, and didn’t even flinch at the many dogs that were also joining in the walk. Our Shetlands took full advantage of the many hands that could make a fuss of them as they walked past and remained right up against the fence for most of the day, making sure that no one passed them by without a cuddle or a scratch.
We are so grateful to all of our volunteers that came to help, and particularly to Nicky and Di for organising the day. We were also ably assisted by our latest group of Duke of Edinburgh Award students, who worked on the event as part of their award. Special thanks must go to Hannah, one of the D of E team, that spent most of the day in a horse’s costume playing with the children!
It’s so lovely to be able to welcome people to the Sanctuary to meet our horses (and chickens and dog) in person and we know that we had many who had come for the first time. It’s so important for us to be able to share what we are up to and more importantly, to share our animals and our site – all of which are continuing to develop and blossom daily.
