Guests were welcomed to this year’s Christmas Lunch in association with Europasat by Jenny and the MCS Team with a glass of Prosecco, or sparkling non-alcoholic alternative, into the festively adorned Mandolay Suite. Around the room tables were laden with Mane Chance merchandise, table decorations and numerous prizes for the raffle, tombola and silent auction and guests were encouraged to mingle, bid and purchase the goodies and tickets on offer. Indeed the tombola table was cleared before lunch commenced!
At 1pm everyone sat down to enjoy an excellent 3-course lunch with menu choices to suit all that did not fancy the traditional turkey and Christmas pudding! The food was plentiful and everyone praised the presentation and taste, washing it down with a glass or two of wine. Whilst coffee was being served, Jenny updated the room on the progress at Mane Chance over the last 12 months – including the new Chance 2 Be programme – and related recent stories of how our healing horses and unique sanctuary experience had positively impacted on the lives of a number of young people.
Following Jenny to the stage was our guest speaker for the day – the incredible Chris Moon, MBE. Chris regaled the room with the stories of his kidnap by the Khmer Rouge and the day in Africa when a land mine exploded and changed his life. Chris was open and candid as he relayed his thoughts and actions at the time of each event and throughout, perhaps unbelievably, he had the audience in fits of giggles, which he reliably informed everyone only usually happens to adults 7 times a day… Having been taken for dead twice, Chris reinforced the ethos that anything is possible if you do not give up and look at the positives. Chris is a double amputee and now runs ultra-tough marathons (for fun) when not inspiring others – much as he did with all in the room that day.
The day rounded off with a room full of winners as the raffle was drawn and the silent auction lots claimed. Everyone departing into the early evening full of Christmas joy and with resounding praise for a fantastic event and armfuls of teddies, champagne, hampers, books, cards, etc ………..
We are very grateful to Europasat who continue to be great supporters of Mane Chance.
