Tailor was picked up with Tinker and Soldier, abandoned and starving in a field by the A3. He would not have lived another month had we not intervened. He is now a sturdy colt and is part of our main herd. Along with his brothers, he is always interested in everything we are doing on the site – whatever the job, we always have a sense of being watched as they spend quite a lot of time at the fence checking out our every move.  But it seems our projects always pass the test as they seem quite happy with the results!

Tailor is a sensitive soul that takes great confidence from the other horses around him, but it’s important that he also learns that he can stand on his own four feet and does not need them always near him.  So with our Equine Behaviourist’s help, he has been taught that he is safe and secure away from the herd, even if just for a little while at first.  He has been taken out of the tracks on his own and walked around the site including round the pond, investigating new surroundings, surfaces and sights – he has done really well and it’s clear to see his confidence growing which is so, so lovely and makes us burst with pride!

We are really hopeful that Tailor and other members of the family herd will become a big part of our Chance2Be project in working gently with the young people working with young people who have low self-esteem, low confidence or high anxiety. It is all about proving how the connection between a horse and human can be so special.  We have lots planned for Tailor if he is up for helping us and the lessons that we are teaching him now are all steps towards reaching the potential that we believe this horse has with our work.  In overcoming his own insecurities about being away from his own herd, we know that Tailor will be the ideal pony to work with our young people as he will have a greater understanding of their feelings too and knows from first-hand experience how you can get past things that seem so daunting at the outset!
