Could you work in our team, caring for our herds of horses - rehabilitating them from trauma and ensuring they have the life they deserve?

We are looking for a full-time groom to join our team at Mane Chance.

About you:

  • An experienced horse person with a gentle, calm and trusting approach to horse care.
  • You possess sensitivity and have an understanding approach to horses who may have been traumatised by abuse and neglect.
  • You are able to work alone on site or with the horses, as well within a team of other staff members and volunteers.
  • You have a willingness to learn and implement the Mane Chance ethos and method of equine care.
  • You are a people person as well as a horse person; willing to work with our volunteers and at our events.

Job duties:

  • Care and welfare of the horses
  • Daily mucking out of fields and stables, cleaning of yard and site
  • Overseeing feeding, watering, grooming and foot care of horses
  • Assist with any horse care professional visit to site ie. farrier, dentist and veterinary surgeon
  • Daily checking of electric fencing, water butts, land damage
  • Daily observation of horses to ensure that high levels of horse care and welfare are met
  • Provide support when needed to the (non ridden) exercise regime of the horses
  • Operation of yard machinery
  • Supervision of volunteers and visitors to the Charity
  • Assist with community visits as requested, particularly with regards to horse interaction
  • Assist with the stock control of feeds and medication of the horses
  • Assist with the preparation of the Sanctuary for events
  • Assist with corporate and community volunteering days taking place on site.
  • Perform the role of first aider on site, if required

Important Information:

  • Full time role, 40 hours per week, involving some weekend working on a rota.
  • Salary £18,500 pa
  • You must have a full, valid driving licence and you should have your own car as our site is not easily assessable by public transport.
  • DBS check required as we work with children and at risk adults.

  • 20 days holiday per annum plus public holidays, if a public holiday is worked a day off is offered in lieu.
