Jack came to Mane Chance as we were asked to help the RSPCA who had horses in their care following the closure of another Sanctuary. Jack is the joint oldest of the horses we have at Mane Chance (together with Berry) and age certainly brings a maturity. Berry and Jack are in the same herd and they often wander around together - you can almost hear their conversation as they quietly graze side by side – no doubt reminiscing about the good old times! When he came to us, he was a little shut down and forlorn, not holding his weight well and just looked a little weary with life. But the team worked wonders to create a bespoke nutrition plan for him and he started to put and keep weight on, lift his head a little higher and a wonderful sparkle appeared in his eyes. Obviously living out in a settled herd really suits him and he is now a horse that looks ten years younger than he is – it is not unusual to see Jack and Berry playing gently together. He is also wonderful for us too – a gentleman of the herd that enjoys fuss and attention, spending time with adults and children alike. He is a super addition to the Mane Chance family and one of our more senior characters on site.
