Equine best friend: Duncan

Hamish, Teddy and Duncan came to us as a ready-made herd when their owner’s circumstances changed. They had grown up together having initially been rescued from a truly awful breeding site and they needed to stay as a threesome.  We were delighted to welcome them and give them this security. Hamish was the most timid of the three, but also the eldest and so their little leader. He is the only one of the group that has memories of that early time when life was difficult - he was a very untrusting pony and flinched at any sudden movement.  But now he has understood that they are in a safe place, he has become a most adorable member of the Shetland herd.  He may still stand a few paces back and assess a situation more than the others before engaging with a group and sometimes he can give us a right runaround to put a head collar on (it is a game to him!) but he is one of the gentlest ponies you could wish to meet.  It’s truly delightful to see him blossom and enjoy spending time with our visitors.
