Equine best friend: Louise

Ziggy was found wandering with a mare by a young lady in Cranleigh one morning!  Unusually, he had shoes on, but neither were microchipped and no owner came forward for them.  Ziggy was a stallion and it is hard to find a home for them, so we brought him to Mane Chance and he was gelded with us. It soon became very apparent that he had a deep feeling of insecurity, a fear of rejection and whilst he was amazingly calm with people, he had no social skills with other horses and simply did not know how to behave with them. So he had to be kept on his own for a while before being slowly introduced to the others – for both his and their sanity and safety.  He was integrated into our older herd with those who could teach him manners and etiquette and he has come on in leaps and bounds. He is growing into a fantastic member of our healing herd.  He still has some stallion tendencies though and can show off wildly when a new girl arrives on site – flicking that wonderfully long mane of his and trotting like a pro!  But his companion is Louise and he is very protective of her - sometimes, perhaps a little too much, but he takes this role very seriously.
