We had a call for help as a Sanctuary was facing closure due to lack of finances and loss of their land. 28 horses needed immediate rehoming and whilst World Horse Welfare had been able to assist with the majority, there were still 4 horses without anywhere to go. Two of the horses were very elderly and the other two were their companions, so options were limited – older horses are always hard to find homes for. We agreed to take all 4 of the group, allowing them to come to us together and stay as a small herd.
Bronwen is the mother of Wynner, both stocky Section D Welsh cobs. She is 27 years old but surprisingly healthy for her mature years. She doesn’t require any treatment for any of the usual conditions expected of an older horse, but she has the associated aches and creaks that comes with age, so we are keeping a close eye to make sure she remains comfortable.
Bron has a strong personality and keeps her son in check, often giving him a little nudge or nip if he is annoying her! She arrived quite underweight, so we have organised a healthy eating routine for her with extra feeds – just to keep her sustained – and she loves them! She is proving to be a super horse with lots of love to give – she just wants to have a quiet, peaceful and secure retirement – and that’s exactly what we will give her!
