Lucy was one of the original herd of horses that Jenny took on when Mane Chance was founded. Her hips have a tendency to dislocate and for this reason she was unwanted by her previous owners. She is a lovely character but has clearly suffered before at the hands of humans and we have spent much time helping her to get through her previous memories. We soon learnt that she was actually a very gentle horse if treated sensitively and so we were careful to work with her at her own pace. Consequently, her confidence has grown immeasurably since she has been with us and Lucy is the now probably the most dominant mare we have at Mane Chance. Her role here is definitely as the matriarch, sometimes perhaps a little demanding of the others, but essentially, she is a kind horse who has found safety and security with us, loves a groom with the volunteers and a flutter of her eyelashes at the boys given any opportunity!
